The Amish Girl Who Never Belonged by Samantha Price is a novel that deals with how we perceive ourselves and deal with the blows life sends our way.Emma dreads having birthdays as her experiences have been negative. Her parents were killed in a buggy accident and the funeral was held on her seventh birthday. She was sent to live with her grandmother who was not one to show emotion. When she turned eleven she was sent to live with the Esh family while the mother was ill. She returns to her grandmother then returns to the Esh family and stays until Mrs. Esh passes away. At seventeen she is sent to live with distant cousins Joseph and Molly and their daughter Katie. They treat Emma as their own daughter and two are like sisters until… On her twentieth birthday Uncle Joseph announces that it is time for Emma to marry and he has several candidates from which he will choose her husband. Emma is not happy and decides to take things into her own hands. She once again feels betrayed and the idea that she never belonged in the community grows stronger. Will she turn from the God she has always counted on? Will she be able to find a way to make it on her own in the community or will she need to leave?I really enjoyed this book and couldn’t stop reading! Emma grabbed my heart from the beginning and I felt her pain and loneliness in my heart; I so wanted to hug her and take her in and give her a loving life. Katie was very supportive of her as was Mrs. Esh while she lived with their families. Mrs. Esh was a minor character in the sense that she had passed away but her influence on Emma is evident in how Emma speaks of her and remembers her; this was really well written. It hurt me to see Aunt Molly being so quiet and not supportive of Emma at times, especially when Joseph was determined to get her married against her will. Overall the characters are very realistic and are described in detail so you get to know each of them. I rate this book 5 of 5 stars and recommend it to everyone who enjoys reading Amish fiction.I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Really felt bad for Emma, lost both of her parents on the same day, had to live with a grumpy grandmother. While living with her grandmother she helped the Eshe family. During the time she worked for this family she became very close to the mother. Her grandmother pass and she go to live with her Aunt and Uncle, at the age of 20 her tell her it is time to many and they have already sent out letters trying to fine her a husband. The man that show up is the son of the family she worked for. Fast pace story, relaxing story. God moves in his time.

I found this book difficult in parts of the story because it is always hard to know that any child has lost both parents and must live and grow with a harsh and unloving surrogate. It was helpful in the insight into the acceptance of the Amish community and the hope of her future with a loving husband and acceptance of the community.

The story was interesting but the writing was choppy and predictable. Transitions were forced. More descriptions are needed to picture what the author is trying to explain.

No depth of plot. I kept waiting for the development of the story and it never happened.

While the basic story was ok, the writing style was choppy and didn't flow well. The so-called heroine of the story would be firm one minute but then give up her stand too easily. The characters needed more development. I love to buy new series of books but I don't think I will buy this one.

À good book written very well. I would have liked the other books to have same characters to see how their lives evolved.

I especially liked the integrity of the Amish girl who did not give up hope through all her problems. She just kept hoping and the Lord answered her prayers in His time. Thomas learned from his mistakes as we all should do and he received the love of his life and of God.
