I've own the paperback version of this book like forever so when I noticed that the ebook price had dropped I picked it up. It's one of my favorite from this author and is one I often reach for although lately my book stash has gotten too big I have no idea where my book is. Now I have it on the go. I see not many people care for this book and that's fine. If you want to read about safe, non adventurous characters, this is not a book you should read. It's based in a time that women are really just property and can be man handled and everyone for the most part, won't say anything about it unless you belong to the person who isn't man handling you.Rhiannon happens to be a lady and the ward of the king so she has have the privilege to be more than a regular woman's station/lot in life during those days. But in the end, she still can't escape that. Eric, is a strong Irish Viking prince. He could have been a brute of a man but knows he can never truly hurt a woman unless it was warranted. Is he a little rough with Rhiannon? For sure he was. She herself is a brat and having been given certain privileges, is spoiled and thinks some things do not apply to her. But does he hurt her on purpose? No he never does intentionally. They both are flawed and must learn to navigate through their feelings especially for one another. That's one of the reason this book is well loved by me. Their love for one another grows over time. It's not instant love. Instant lust, yes. And because of their hurt from previous relationship, it's hard for them to come out and confess it to one another. Therefore their HEA at the end is very much deserved!

This book takes place during the time when war took place between England and the Danes. People were afraid of the Danes and the Viking ships that arrived and plundered. This is where the story between the Viking Eric from Ireland comes to the shores of Rhiannon's home. There was treachery when he arrives. Information from the king was not passed on to Rhiannon. Eric was there in peace at the king's request. Rhiannon's people fought these Vikings and she wounded Eric with an arrow. They hated each other. They were enemies. Rhiannon rides to the king, finds out Eric was there at the king's request. The King is angry thinking she has started a war with the Vikings. Long story short the king gives Rhiannon in marriage to Eric. What a temptuous relationship. Rhiannon loved another so this adds to her misery. They learn so much from each other. She is angry with the king because he did this to her. The king is her cousin and they had a good relationship. Both Eric and Rhiannon do stupid things but in the end they love each other. It is a time when women are given in marriage for land. There are a lot of battles. This is one of my favorite books. You will really enjoy reading this story.

To my surprise, Heather Graham gave me a mystery, a book to relax and please me, and she actually interested me in the race of Vikings. Never one of my history interests but it seems that opening you eyes is one of the gifts of her books beside pure enjoyment.I think her books will interest many ages. For the young or young at heart there is fantasy and dreams to escape into. For the middle age person will like the problem, the solution, the chase for right against wrong. For the old, they will enjoy the interests of all ages because they stir memories and feeling of when they had younger thoughts; besides remembering the feeling they had when they were young and in love.

Full of adventure and action. The characters are fantastic and wonderful to be with throughout the book. I loved the story and the way it was written. I felt like I was with them. Can't wait to read next book by Me Graham.

This is a very good read. It is one of the authors older books. I enjoy the older novels and this is one of Heather Graham's best.

A good read. However, more development of characters is needed. Sex scenes were over used . Impetuous is not a good quality.

I have read some of the previous reviews and there is absolutely no rape in this book. Yes, she is unwilling to consummate their marriage but, well, I won't go into detail but her body sure seemed willing enough. And afterwards, she even admits to herself how much it excited her. Eric is a great hero, for being who he was. A man-of-war, of course he is not intuned to tender feelings and murmuring sweet-nothings. Yes, he manhandles his bride at times, but for when this book was written (1990), that was the style. He tries to understand his wife but she is what makes this a 4 star not a 5. She is very similar to Eric's mother in the first one. She is horrified to be married to a 'viking!' She goes on and on and on...well, you get the picture on what a bast*rd he is, d*mn viking till it gets a bit tiresome. She seems to forget he is half Irish and raised in Ireland. Real Vikings would have killed everyone and made her a slave. I think too much of the book is spent on her feeling sorry for herself. Only close to the end does she finally accept her fate and her feelings. The story is action-packed and humorous at times. If you don't like whining she-wolves, this is not the book for you. If you like action & a strong-alpha hero, you'll love it.

A great Viking romance and it's hard to find those! I wish I could find more books like this.
