Not since Frosty paraded through the village square have snowmen enjoyed such a slip-sliding good time as they do in the Buehners' (Fanny's Dream) latest flight of fancy. When a boy observes that the snowman he built the day before now looks droopy and disheveled, he imagines what happened to his snow creation during the night. Soon the boy pictures all the neighborhood snowmen gathered in the park for "ice-cold cocoa," a snowball fight, a round of making snow angels and more. Oh, what a beautiful book. The text is great for 3-to-6 or -7-year-olds, with a rhyming text full of action and mischief,but I admit it, «i bought it for the illustrations, by Markd Buehner. Caralyn Buehner wrote the text. I thinkk I'll buy all their books. The snow is deep blue, and lavender just dlike in real-life winter at dusk, the pages are full-colour vivid, I love this book. Your children will treasure it, even, I think, if they've never seen snow.
After doing a search of books online to read to a 3rd grade class this Christmas, I settled on this particular title. The book was recommended on another website by 3rd grade teachers. For anyone familiar with the AR program in many public schools this book is on a 3rd grade reading level. I'm a little surprised as it is somewhat juvenile, in my opinion, and seems written to appeal to a younger age group. But that was what I though - my 3rd grader and younger child, were both captivated by the story of what snowmen are possibly up to at night. They particularly enjoyed finding objects that are hidden throughout the book.As for my rating & pictures - I purchased this book from a book seller. I knew it was used and didn't expect a book in mint condition. But I was majorly disappointed to find the book with more wear and tear, and markings than what was described by the seller. The book is grungy, like something one might find in a yard sale or donation box! Shame on me for trying to save a little money.Aside from that, it's a cute, short read that will easily engage young readers....and leave their imaginations running wild!
I bought this book expecting it to be a hard back book as that's what it is advertised as. It came as a board book....While that is a hardback book I feel that I was mislead. I wouldn't have purchased it since I am a classroom teacher and there is no way my kids could see a little board book if I read it aloud. The company however did fix their mistake and took care of me. They didn't have any more, but offered a refund, which I accepted. I am giving 3 stars since the company took ownership and ultimately I am satisfied with that.
LOVE this book!!! 62 yo woman and love the story line and illustrations. Hysterical!! Good for kids of all ages, if you like quirky fantasy. Also, if you are interested in great examples of illustration, this is perfect.
This our second book,first one children destroy.We like this book very much,simple,funny poem,nice illustrations. The only wish about improvement of this book would be more heavy paper or cardboard edition so children will not rip it so quickly.
Imaginative and cute! A fun twist on the "life" of a snowman. It's fun for children to imagine their creations coming alive and adventure seeking while they slumber. I love this book, as do my children! I have even given it away as presents for Christmas and winter birthdays.
I can't speak for the 4-year-old who received the book as an early birthday present but as an adult who could easily be reading this to someone his age or even younger, I can attest to the fact that it is clever and fun and well-illustrated. When adults enjoy what they're reading, it's all the more interesting and pleasurable for their audience!
I purchased this for my grandchilden. It is a darling book. THe one I purchased had puzzles. One side is the written word the other is a puzzle. There are several pages of this. The only thing I found annoying is that there is no picture on the opposite page of the puzzle to match up with the picture on the puzzle so it can be hard to put together for kids. Heaven forbid if ALL the puzzle pieces ( as there are many pages with puzzles) in the book are taken out. It would be a nightmare to find which pieces would go on which page. NOt sure why that wasn't VERY OBVIOUS when they were deciding what graphics to put on the opposite page. We ended up numbering the backs of each puzzle set. That could have been so easily taken care of by simply inserting a picture on each of the pages that matched the puzzle for that page. NOt sure how that got by them.. A no brainer for me.That is why it didn't get 5 stars.As for the book itself ... it is darling. You can get this without puzzle pieces too.Another one I bought(without the puzzle pieces is Snowmen at Christmas. Adorable too. That I liked even more.That would be a 5 star!
